#15. Wolgan Valley

Although it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains is less than three hours by road from Sydney.

Bordered by two national parks, Wolgan Valley is a private conservation and wildlife reserve.

A tranquil wildlife haven in a World Heritage-listed landscape

Sheltered from the rest of the world by rugged escarpments and forests, the valley is enveloped in a blue-green mist created by the light reflecting off the eucalyptus oil in the fresh mountain air.

A sense of tranquility surrounds this remote wilderness, with nature laid bare as far as the eye can see.

From the foot of towering sandstone cliffs, meadows extend to dense forests where an abundance of Australian native birds and animals live in peaceful harmony.

Hike nature trails with local guides. Explore the countryside on horseback. Pack a gourmet picnic and take a wildlife safari by four-wheel drive. Go mountain biking through forests, or stargaze at the clear night skies. Adventures await those who love the great outdoors, but also appreciate a little indulgence.

In spring, wildflowers bloom in profusion; summer heralds blue skies and balmy nights. Autumn offers dramatic changes in colour. In winter, retreat to the cozy fireside of the Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa after a day exploring the bush.

The Wolgan Valley is also rich in Australian history which is told through the perspectives of the local Aboriginal people and the stories of over two centuries of colonial settlers.
